What Do You Wear for Line Dancing?

When it comes to line dance clothing, there is usually no strict dress code. For your first dance lessons, comfortable everyday clothes are perfectly fine. For women, we mainly recommend comfortable, lightweight clothing that allows plenty of freedom of movement. The cowgirl look is popular, but by no means a must.

Line Dance Clothing for Women

At larger country events or festivals, you'll often see the classic Western look with a cowboy hat, boots and matching accessories. In regular training at dance schools or clubs, however, things tend to be far more relaxed – here, comfort and freedom of movement take centre stage. The dance ankle boots from Werner Kern feature a suede sole that creates the perfect conditions for comfortable dancing.

Line Dance Styles for Men

For men, comfortable, well-fitting shoes are the most important thing. Jeans or other loose-fitting trousers combine well with a T-shirt or shirt. If you like, you can wear a checked shirt or Western boots. Accessories such as a cowboy hat or belt buckle are optional.

Line Dance Clothing for Beginners

You don't need any special dance wear to get started with line dancing. Loose-fitting trousers combined with a T-shirt, shirt or blouse are usually perfectly sufficient. You're also welcome to wear a dance top, as our breathable material keeps you from getting unnecessarily sweaty.

The right shoes are especially important: they should be comfortable and have a sole that makes turning easier. Western wear such as a cowboy hat or boots is not a must, but can be added later as a stylish accessory.

The Right Shoes for Line Dancing

When it comes to footwear, most people focus above all on comfort and a suitable sole:

  • Many wear dance shoes or lightweight ankle boots
  • Western boots are often the classic look
  • Sports shoes with a high-grip rubber sole are not a good idea, as they make turns more difficult and put unnecessary strain on the knees
  • Dance sneakers with a lightweight PU sole are very well suited to dance training
  • Trainer shoes with a small heel are a good alternative to cowboy boots
