When buying dance shoes, a good fit is essential – the shoe should fit snugly without pinching to provide optimal support and control. High-quality materials like nappa leather or suede are ideal because they are breathable and adapt to the shape of the foot over time. Heel height is also important: beginners should opt for lower heels for greater stability, while more advanced dancers may choose higher heels depending on their experience. A suitable sole, ideally made of suede leather, is also key as it allows controlled gliding and turning on the dance floor. Finally, look for good workmanship and cushioning to ensure comfort and durability.
Good dance shoes are characterized by a perfect fit. They must support the foot without pinching. They feature a flexible suede sole that allows natural movement while providing grip. The shoe should be made of breathable materials such as nappa leather or suede to ensure comfort during longer dance sessions. The heel should provide stability and control, while the sole should offer enough glide to allow for turns and quick movements.
The appropriate heel height for your dance shoes depends on several factors, such as your experience level, dance style, and personal comfort. For beginners or longer training sessions, lower heels between 1.5 and 5.5 cm are recommended, as they offer a wider base and place less strain on the feet. Advanced dancers often choose heels between 6 and 7.5 cm, as they support a more elegant posture. For show dance or experienced dancers, heels over 8 cm are also possible but require good technique and body control.
For beginner dancers, a heel height of 3.5 to 5 cm is ideal. This height offers a good balance between elegance and stability without putting too much strain on the feet or joints. Especially during the first dance lessons, a wide or slightly flared heel (e.g. flared heel) is helpful for maintaining balance more easily. Depending on the dance style (e.g. Standard, Salsa, Bachata), the preferred heel shape may vary slightly, but low to mid-height heels remain the safest choice for beginners.

Premium materials such as nappa leather, suede, or satin do adapt quickly to the foot, but a short break-in period helps ensure optimal comfort and a perfect fit.
